Conditions
The Radio Station already used a WordPress blog site as their main website, in addition to a website on the universities web system.
Research
User interviews from listeners indicated what type of apps and interfaces they used on a regular basis.
- 80% of listeners used Spotify for their music and podcasts
- 10% used Apple Music
- 10% used Google Play/YouTube Music
Design
Low Fidelity Designs
During this ideation phase, I drew up designs that would incorporate how a web app would work where you could switch between the live radio stream, and pre-recorded podcasts/shows from the site.
Prototype Mockup
After going through some paper wireframes, I came up with a few designs in Adobe Xd to solidify the direction the site would be built in, focusing on mobile first.

Prototype Testing
We used the prototype to run through some testing with listeners. Some insights we found were
- Users didn’t understand that you could switch the player from live stream to podcasts within the streamer UI itself
- Users that were just trying to navigate to blogs or stories were easily able to hide the stream UI with the UI button in the navigation bar.
End Result
In the end the tests seem to determine that it would take more work to have an all encompassing media player. So we opted for just a toggle-able stream that you could see current play info on. My team left our findings and prototypes for the next group of web designers and developers to take over from.
